Most Popular Music bands in the World of all Time

Music is part of everyday life. It is used in television programs and movies to set the mood. It is also an essential addition to the club scene; you need music to dance! But music is actually so much more than that!

Certainly genres of music have influenced generations of people; the clothing the band members choose to wear can start fashion trends and music can even be used to influence the political mood of an entire nation. Music really does hold the key to your heart!

This can make it difficult to establish which are the most popular music bands in the world of all time. Of course, a good starting point is the band being recognized by people of all generations:

  1. The Beatles

It is difficult to imagine that there is anyone in the world who does not know who The Beatles are. The band started in Northern England in 1960; it consisted of just four members and they are seen as innovators across the world. Their music was a mix of skiffle, beat and rock’n’roll although they also incorporated a variety of different genres as they appeared.

The Beatles are considered to be the most influential band of the rock era and are still the best selling music artists of all time.

  1. Led Zeppelin

This is another English band; they first started performing in 1968 and are known for their rock music across the globe. In fact, they are considered to be one of the first true heavy metal bands; bringing this distinctive sound to millions of fans throughout the years.

The band consisted of four members and has seen many of their songs become huge commercial successes. Their initial sounds were based on the blues and psychedelia tunes of their era; the heavy metal developed from this to create some of the most memorable tunes of all time.

Unfortunately the death of their drummer in 1980 meant the end for the band. Their music has continued to be in demand.

  1. Queen

There are very few people who have not heard of Queen and their eccentric lead singer Freddie Mercury. This is yet another British band which was formed in 1970.In fact; the band was formed when Freddie Mercury made several suggestions to the existing band Smile; which was made up of two of the other Queen members. With the arrival of the bass guitarist the band was complete and ready to rock the world!

The band is recognized as having more than sixteen number one hits and even has a star in Hollywood. Sadly Mercury died in 1991 leaving the remaining band members to carry on without him.

  1. AC/DC

This is another name from the second part of the twentieth century. AC/DC formed in late 1973; initially by two Australian brothers. The band is known across the world as one of the greatest and most popular heavy metal bands ever.

Although personal tragedy has struck the band in the form of the death of one of the founders it has continued in a variety of formats with a great deal of success.

  1. Nirvana

It is virtually impossible that you have not heard of Kurt Cobain or Nirvana. This American band has had a cult following for in excess of twenty five years. The band was created in 1987 I Washington. There were just three members. Unfortunately the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994 ended the band although the drummer went on to form the Foo-Fighters who have also enjoyed a tremendous amount of success.

The band is known for grunge music; this genre of music celebrates life without caring what others think of you and your actions. It is considered a sub genre of punk although many of its beliefs are in stark contrast to Punk!

  1. Guns N Roses

In 1985 Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler formed the band Guns N Roses. It was a hard rock band that was set to become one of the most famous and best bands in history. In fact, this is the band which is said to have brought rock music back to the masses and made it acceptable to the general public!

The band was a stark contrast to its competitors; glam metal and dance music. However its rebellious spirit and wild, partying lifestyle earned it the respect of young people and a reputation as the most dangerous band in the world.

  1. Rolling Stones

In 1962 Mick Jagger started the Rolling Stones. The band is still performing today! Despite a few early changes in the line up the band has enjoyed a huge amount of success and generated a cult following over the years.

The Rolling Stones is considered to be one of the front runners in the initial invasion of America. This was when British bands took to the US to introduce their rebellious take on music and culture; they were an instant success. They have, on more than one occasion, been introduced as the ‘World’s greatest rock’n’roll band’.

  1. Maroon 5

This contemporary band has proved to be extremely popular. The band first formed in 1994 and has achieved an impressive level of success and popularity by releasing pop songs with light hearted messages. Their repertoire includes classics such as ‘Moves like Jagger’

Their success and popularity seems set to continue.

  1. One Direction

This pop band has enjoyed huge amounts of success in recent years. The band already had huge popularity when in formed in 2010. It was the winner of the British pop contest; “The X Factor” and this, along with an impressive media campaign propelled the band to the top of the charts. They have released five albums and enjoyed the most success of any of the singing competition winners. Their popularity has been enhanced by their range of accessories and other merchandise.

There are many other popular bands from round the world; but most people will accept these as the most popular and influential at this time!
